Accessibility

Making a rural green-field event accessible to all can be quite a challenge, but we are doing our best to make the event accessible to as many people as possible.

MOBILOO + EVENT MOBILITY

In partnership with the amazing Livability, we’ve got two accessible changing units in the form of Mobiloo which are located in the accessible camping area.

Mobiloo is a not for profit organisation with a mission to enable disabled people to attend all kinds of events, which may be exclusive due to lack of facilities. They will be bringing a unit including; a toilet with grab rails each side, an electronic hoist and an adult sized changing bench.

Event Mobility has been running since 1998 and aims to provide access to shows and events for disabled, elderly and mobility impaired. They will be bringing electric scooters to the event, which can be booked beforehand at: www.eventmobility.org.uk.

These will be available for hire from the accessible campsite across the two event days!

We will also have an accessibility map, which will be handed out at ticket gates and the accessible campsite detailing accessible routes, parking and more.

GETTING AROUND

We have special access routes to all main venues and essential services, but the areas around these are predominantly grass. Electric wheelchairs can tackle most areas without too much hindrance but if it rains, it may get muddy and access around the site (other than on the paths) may be very difficult. Once you’re at the event, if you have any concerns please speak to one of our stewards who can advise the best route for you.

The terrain is predominantly short grass with firm soil so movement around the main arena and other stages is possible for fit wheelchair users in good weather. The ground can be quite uneven in places.

FACILITIES

Accessible toilets are positioned around the site. They are clearly marked on the site map and all our stewards will be happy to direct you to the nearest one.

There is a raised viewing platform in the Main Stage arena right in front of the sound desk - the best seat in the house!! Here you will also find charging points for electric wheelchairs – please note these are outdoors so can be affected by damp conditions - chargers are left at users risk.

Emergency medical support is available from the on-site medical team, but please ensure you bring all your own medication, and a carer trained in administering it. Regrettably it is not possible for Big Church Day Out to safely and securely store medicines at the event. We recommend that any guests needing to refrigerate or store medicines seek advice from your GP for alternative methods to store medication.

PRIORITY LANE

We will have a priority lane for guests that have accessibility needs and come with a carer to allow them to enter quickly into the event. Only the person with accessible needs and the carer with a carer ticket may use the priority lane.

INTERPRETERS

Please check closer to the event to see what artists will be interpreted at BCDO 2020.

CAMPING

We provide an accessible camping area that is on flat ground and has accessible toilet facilities and two shower units.  In addition, a wheelchair charging point (with multiple charge points) is located close by for 24hr charging (subject to availability).

ELECTRICAL HOOK UPS

If you have a specific medical need and require an electric hook-up, please email info@bigchurchdayout.com with as much information as possible so that we can review your request. Please include relevant documentation such as a doctors note. We'll then let you know whether we're able to provide this free of charge.

Please note that those requiring electrical hook-ups for medical reasons will need to be coming in a caravan or tent and will need to camp in the Caravan field or Accessible Campsite as this is the only area where electrical hook ups will be available.

Upon arrival, please make one of the campsite team aware by showing your e-ticket that you have been authorised for an electric hook-up for medical reasons so you are then directed to the correct place.

When requesting power please be aware that the site is powered by generators, it could go off at any point so we can not guarantee it on permanently during the festival. Should a generator power off one of our engineers will be working to get it on again as soon as possible.

CARERS

If the full price ticket buyer can prove, by supplying documentation, that they are gaining support through one of the follow benefits then they are entitled to book one carer ticket along with their own ticket: Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Blue Badge or relevant medical documentation to support an injury such as a doctor’s note.

Carer tickets are sold at a subsidised price (£8 Event Ticket, £5 Camping ticket).

CHILLING OUT  + ESCAPING THE CROWDS

We recognise that some people may need to find a space to step away from large crowds and noise. As we are on a parkland site there is space to get away, but if you are noise sensitive please be aware that the area around the Main Stage can be louder than other areas on-site.

If you have any specific needs or questions, please contact us on info@bigchurchdayout.com and we’ll do our very best to help or advise!
